More Spirit Campaign Reaches $6.1 Million Goal for Gym Groundbreaking

It is with tremendous gratitude and pride that we officially announce this:  On Day 100 of our "$1 Million in 100 Days" Campaign, STM received more than $230,000 in gifts and pledges, putting us solidly over the big $6.1 million goal line!

To the StanJean Foundation, and to all  of you who came through for STM, you know who you are: Thank You!

Please take a moment to feel the weight of this accomplishment.  Together the STM Community actually raised $6.1 Million in gifts and pledges!  That is nothing short of amazing!  It really says something about you, the people who make up the STM community.

So what happens now?  When is groundbreaking?  First, STM needs to jump a few more hurdles...
  1. Tender the project, that is, establish the real costs by locking in the contractors
  2. Crunch the cash flow numbers to ensure STM can pay the bills when due, including incidental costs (eg, temporary facility, loan financing)
  3. Get approved for a big construction/bridge loan
  4. Get the building permit approved (expected in time for Spring)

Once those hurdles are cleared, we can set a date for groundbreaking this Spring.  So, as one of our Campaign Team members put it, we've made it to the Superbowl - and that's a big deal - but we haven't played the game yet.

In the meantime, we will continue to fundraise to cover the real costs of this project.  STM still needs every dollar that people can contribute to this, so if you haven't given yet, it's not too late to be part of this historic moment.  The temporary facility needed for PE classes during the 12-16-month construction period will cost $150,000, financing charges will cost around $200,000, and there will be other ancillary costs.

Then we have a new TURF FIELD and FIELD HOUSE to build!

Every dollar we raise beyond the actual cost of the athletic centre will be put towards the field project that has always been part of the overall vision.  Our current families have come through bigtime to pay for the athletic centre, but there are still a lot of alumni out there who haven't yet given.  Alumni, we're looking to you to make this field more than a pipe dream.

Stay tuned for updates.  For now, it is fair to say

YAHOO!!!!  Well done, Knights!
