South Burnaby Metro Bursary   Deadline May 22nd

If an STMC student has participated in the South Burnaby Metro Athletic Program, they might qualify for a bursary.    These awards are available every spring.  It is due on May 22nd.  To download the application go to South Burnaby Metro Bursary.

Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Scholarship   Deadline:  June 7 2018

Open to students of Italian origin i.e. having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian decent and have an academic standing sufficient to qualify for entry into the post secondary institution of their choice. The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Foundation Scholarship

The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Foundation offers several entry scholarships to British Columbia high school graduates entering engineering or Earth science programs at the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Institute of Technology, and the University of Northern British Columbia. The entry scholarships are awarded based on a combination of factors, including academic standing, extracurricular activities, financial need, and a student statement.  Deadline:  June 29th, 2018

The following Four Scholarships are offered by the BC Ministry of Education

1. BC Achievement Scholarships

BC Achievement Scholarships recognize the top 8000 graduates in the province. The Ministry will determine recipients based on achievement in Grades 10, 11, and 12 courses that satisfy 2004 Graduation Program requirements, including elective courses. Grad Transitions will not be included.

A cumulative average percentage will be calculated and form the basis for determining winners, who receive a $1250 scholarship voucher to use towards their post-secondary tuition. Students do not apply for this scholarship.

2. BC Excellence Scholarships 

There are 55 BC Excellence Scholarships available to recognize well-rounded B.C. graduates. Winners will have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and shown aptitude and commitment to their chosen career paths. They will receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to use for post-secondary tuition.

Nomination and Application
  1. Students must be nominated by their secondary school in order to apply for this scholarship.   Only one student from each school may be nominated; therefore any 2018 grad wishing to be nominated by the school must submit the Sponsorship Application Form found below.   Students must confirm their nomination by having their school principal sign and date the verification section of the application form.  To access more information, go to . . . 3.  Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship  Deadline:  February 15, 2018

The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment and aptitude for a career path in K-12 teaching. Winners receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to redeem when they are registered and attending an approved K-12 teacher education program at one of BC’s nine Faculties of Education. Simon Fraser University, Trinity Western University, Thompson Rivers University, University of the Fraser Valley, University of British Columbia, University of Northern British Columbia, University of Victoria, University of British Columbia - Okanagan; Vancouver Island University.  To access more information about these awards, go to . . .  Pathway to Teacher Education

 

4.  Dogwood District/Authority Scholarships

There are 5500 District/Authority Scholarships distributed across school districts and independent school authorities that recognize graduating B.C. students for excellence in their chosen area of interest or strength.  Winners will receive a $1250 scholarship voucher to use towards their post-secondary tuition.

These award acknowledge academics but also recognize a student's accomplishments in a number of fields:

  • Indigenous Languages and Culture, demonstrated at school or in the community
  • Fine Arts (e.g., Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music)
  • Applied Skills (e.g., Business Ed, Technology Ed, Home Economics)
  • Physical Activity (e.g., Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, not limited to Physical Education)
  • International Languages with Integrated Resource Packages (IRPs) or External Assessments, including A.P. and I.B. courses
  • Community Service (Volunteer Activity), which includes demonstration of local and global issues and cultural awareness
  • Technical and Trades Training (e.g., Carpentry, Automotive, Mechanics, Cook Training)

Students can apply for this scholarship through their school counsellor.  All Independent school students will be asked to give a presentation about themselves in front of a group of adjudicators at an evening event hosted by FISA (Federation of Independent Schools Association) in late April. 

The school counselor/student must have the application package delivered to the appropriate FISA representative (listed below) some time in late April.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership  Deadline November 17th

 Burger King Scholars Program    Deadline:  December each year

Awarded to student who have a cummulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and who plan to enrol in a full time post secondary program for two or four years. https://www.scholarsapply.org/burgerkingscholars/.

 Corpus Christi College  

Corpus Christi College is a Catholic liberal arts college  located on the campus of UBC.  Each year CCC appeals to a number of our graduates.  CCC offers a number of  entrance awards. The Father Ted Colleton Scholarship is intended to help young people learn about pro-life issues and the prolife movement through research and writing. THE SCHULICH SCHOLARSHIPS are hugely competive.  They are awarded to students who are interested in pursuing a career in a Post-Secondary STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH) RELATED PROGRAM. Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards.  Deadline:  February 1st

To be considered, applicants must meet be:

  • In good academic standing.
  • Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
  • Students who have already completed secondary (high) school OR are graduating from secondary (high) school in the coming year OR those completing their first year of CÉGEP
  • Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated).
  • Planning to or already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution, or entering their 2nd year of CÉGEP in the upcoming academic year.

The 2018 Re/Max Quest for Excellence program  Deadline:  March 13, 2018

Sixteen  $1,000.00 bursaries are awarded.  This award involves writing a 1250 word essay.  The 2016 Re/Max Quest for Excellence program is open for submissions from September 12, 2016 until midnight March 13, 2017. Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame    Deadline:  April 14th, 2018

Maillardville Residents’ Association BURSARY AWARD  Deadline:  April ,2018
 

This Maillardville Residents’ Association bursary will be awarded to a student or students who reside in Maillardville, demonstrate financial need to enable them to further their education, that they make a contribution to their community through Community Service, attain satisfactory academic grades to allow them to graduate with a Dogwood Diploma or British Columbia School Completion Certificate and that they will continue their education through a post-secondary institution in Canada.  To get an application, go to  APPLICATION

BC Sports Hall of Fame Jack Farley Youth Sports Achievement Awards   Deadline June 30, 2017

Awarded to one outstanding male and one outstanding female amateur athlete graduating from a BC secondary school. Father Emmanuele Rosaia Scholarship   Application Not Available Yet

Two scholarships of $1500 each will be awarded in the name of Father Emmanuele Rosaia, a Franciscan Missionary Priest who gave unselfishly of his time and energy to many a person and to the Italian community in particular. Applicants must be Roman Catholic and of Italian-Canadian origin, expected to graduate with a B grade point average or higher and have plans to attend a university or community college where studies will lead to a university degree in Canada or another country. Applicants must submit a word processed letter of no more than 400 words, double spaced, with full contact information, explaining why they deserve to be the recipients of the scholarship. Applicants must also submit no less than three letters of reference, one of which must be written by the applicant's parish priest and one of which must be written by a current teacher of the applicant, supporting the scholarship application explaining why he is an appropriate candidate for the scholarship. 2016-2017 requirements and deadlines will be posted when they are received. All correspondence should be forwarded to: The Father Rosaia Scholarship Committee, c/o 12059 188A Street, Pitt Meadows, BC, V3Y 1W3. The selection committee will put particular focus on the following: strong academic achievement, the strength of Christian character of the candidate, especially leadership and citizenship qualities, as well as community services rendered within the candidate's own community and school. Applicants, who in their studies, have a leaning towards the humanities: languages, literature, philosophy, history, psychology, fine arts, etc. This does not, however, exclude applicants whose academic focus is in the sciences.

 BCGEU Scholarship Awards 

The BC Government and Service Employees' Union is offering $45,000 in scholarship awards, $3,000 for full-time students and $2,000 for part-time students who are BCGEU members or relatives of BCGEU members or staff. APEG Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC Scholarships   Deadline:  June 2018

APEG Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC has a $2500 scholarship intended for students heading into engineering or geoscience programs at UBC, UNBC, BCIT, UVIC or SFU. The deadline is June 2017.  Go to apeg.bc.ca/scholarships for an application and more info.

 

EXPIRED DEADLINES

1.  Loran Scholarships  Deadline:  October 14th

The Loran Awards are extremely prestigious and highly competitive.   Awards range from $100.000.00 on down.  Students can apply either as school sponsored applicants or direct pool.  Each high school is limited to nominating 3 students.   Typically STMC has between 6 to 8 applicants (3 sponsored; the remainder apply as direct pool candidates.)  The final application deadline is October 19th; however, students must begin the process well in advance.   For details concerning the application process and the award itself, go to . . .       http://www.loranscholar.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Loran-Info-Sheet-2017-EN_PRINT.pdf

1.  Horatio Alger Scholarships   Deadline: October 25th

A total of 80 Plus Scholarships Awarded in different areas.  Check out the link below.  Funded through the generosity of the Members of the Horatio Alger Association of Canada.  The Canadian Scholarships are awarded to eligible students across all provinces and territories in Canada.  These scholarships are need based.  To see the complete Eligibility Requirements go to . . .
