Japanese Student Visitation

  • Friday, December 9th, 2016

Due to the cancellation of school due to the snowfall warning, we are disappointed not to be able to host the Miyazaki-Nishi High School students today, but we wish them the best and look forward to their next visit.

On December 9, 2016, STMC students will be hosting 77 students from Miyazaki-Nishi High School in Japan.  This event is a cultural highlight for our students and a fundraising highlight for our bursary program.  This is the fourth year Miyazaki-Nishi High School has visited STMC.

The day begins with a welcoming ceremony and cultural presentation.  We then create buddy pairs, one Miyazaki-Nishi student with one STMC student.  They go on a school tour and attend classes with their buddy.  During lunch, students share cultural artifacts, stories and many laughs.

The end of the day always comes too soon and it is clear that friendships have been formed.  At the goodbye ceremony, we present our new Japanese friends with a certificate honouring them as members of our community.
