STUDENT LIFE

Our Halloween advisory challenge happened last week and the scores are in! After the first couple of Advisory Challenges, Limerick starts the year with a small lead with defending champ London nipping at their heels. Pumpkin Artists, you have until Wednesday to finish those pumpkins in the foyer.

This Thursday, each student will receive a google form to vote on their house’s pumpkin. The winner from each house will represent its house at the Halloween pep rally. Look for an email from Mr. Power Thursday to vote!

Intramurals

Intramural soccer is around the corner! There will be an intramural soccer sign-up google form being sent out this week. Teams this year are in-house and must have a mix of grades (10-12) or (8-9) and must have AT LEAST 12 players. So recruit some friends from your house and sign them up, or sign up as an individual and we’ll place you on a team.

Sign-up will close October 28th!

Clubs

Missed the opportunity to sign up for a club? There will be visuals with google classroom codes posted on school TVs next week. Be on the lookout for this to sign up and get info on a club of interest.

Student Council

Student Council is selling candygrams. Be on the lookout for the sale from October 23-27!

Halloween Spirit Week Events are also being organized by Student Council. The events will be running from October 26-31.

CAREER LIFE/FAITH DEVELOPMENT

Next Wednesday October 25th Dr. Wayne Tinsey who is the Global Ambassador for Edmund Rice Education Beyond borders will be visiting our community in the afternoon. Dr. Wayne Tinsey is a renowned speaker for the mission and Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Education.

This is a unique opportunity as Dr. Wayne who is from Australia is presenting to Edmund Rice schools in North America during this time. Dr. Wayne is pictured below (far left) with fellow Edmund Rice Educators at a meeting with Pope Francis.

LEARNING COMMONS/ARTS

Mr. Walker is hosting a ‘spooky stories’ event in the Drama room for Halloween. Come and listen to stories, perform stories or even perform your own writing. Treats will be available!

The QR code on the flier will show a number of spooky stories students can read in advance to get ready to perform!

CROSS COUNTRY

In preparation for the Fraser North Zones on October 25, our cross country athletes have been hard at work training and competing.

Top mentions from Oct. 4 include: Evelyn M. (10th place), Remo G. (7th place), Daniel K. (14th place) and Jai S. (20th place). Since this is the same course as the Provincial Zones, it was a great practice run for all who participated.

Congratulations to all 22 athletes who competed in Oct. 12’s meet at Central Park! Everyone saw significant improvement from the first meet. Well done!! Top mentions include: Olivia F. (9th place), Charlotte O. (14th place), Giuseppe G. (14th place), Nathan H. (18th place), Rylan C. (11th place) and Aaiden M. (16th place). Big thanks to Jane and Ron Orser and Carine Chau for volunteering to be marshals along the course!

We have also enjoyed learning additional strength and conditioning exercises from Coach Tim in the Fitness & Weight Room.

FOOTBALL

Grade 8
Our Grade 8 Knights suffered their first defeat of the season. They look to get back to their winning ways against rival Vancouver College Tuesday at Burnaby Lakes, 3:30pm kickoff.

Varsity
Our Varsity Knights won 21-0 over Terry Fox last week on their Seniors’ night. They square off against a very tough Seaquam team next Friday Night at John Oliver Park @ 7pm.
