BE A CATALYST FOR CHANGE AT STMC!
Calling students, parents, alumni, and staff:
Do Truth & Reconciliation, Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging, and/or Environmental Sustainability mean something to you? Maybe you work in the industry; perhaps one or more of these strikes a personal chord with you. If so, then YOU can be a part of the journey to support the STMC Administration and STMC Board to integrate the advancement and integration of these pillars into school decisions and priorities.
The 3 Pillar Advisory Committee (in no particular order, Truth & Reconciliation, JEDI+B, and Environmental Sustainability) is working towards making this vision a reality. If you have any experience or expertise any of these areas, we want to connect with you! Bring your passion, skills, and perspective to the table, and together we can create a positive impact that will propel the STMC community forward.

TOYS FOR KIDS DRIVE
Initially launched by St. Thomas More Collegiate alumni Miguel Ramos (’13) for his Planning 10 initiative, the toy drive has become a massive success for over 10 years. Thousands of dollars and toys have been donated for the Salvation Army, new immigrant families, the Mosaic Society, and local Burnaby schools. This year, our school will be expanding our toy drive, to help even more Burnaby schools with families in need. Our Senior BERT team will once again be delivering the toys to both the schools and family homes.
This year the Toy Drive will take place on Tuesday, December 19 from 7:00-8:30am in the STMC foyer. As an added competition, each of the six STMC Houses will be competing for points, so please drop off your toys to the table representing your house. Cash donations and gift cards are also accepted. Please note that students who provide a donation will be invited to a pancake breakfast in the cafeteria on the morning of December 19 until supplies last.
APPLIED DESIGNS, SKILLS, AND TECHNOLOGIES
The ADST department are collaborating with Hawkeyes Drone Academy in putting on a series of mechatronic style sessions here at STMC. The aim is to have a series of 6 sessions every Wednesday 3:00-4:00 in the Design Lab. This sessions includes: an introduction in to systems process and coding, programming BBC microbit, programming a robotic arm, and potentially programming a small wheel wheeled robot.
The sessions are an introduction into coding, with a link to mechanical control.
This is for grade 8 only.
