Dear STMC Parents,
This announcement provides important information regarding our Communication of Student Learning Term 1 Progress Report.
Term 1 Progress Reports will be posted via our PowerSchool Parent‐Student Portal this afternoon, Wednesday, October 26th (after 4pm). This report will constitute the first “formal” reporting period of the year. The Term 1 Progress Report is designed to give parents and guardians a “snapshot of each class” as well as provide a Work Habit evaluation.
Work Habit
Work Habit is evaluated on a four‐point scale:
• 4 (E – Exceeding Expectations)
• 3 (FM – Fully Meeting Expectations)
• 2 (MM – Minimally Meeting Expectations)
• 1 (NYM – Not Yet Meeting Expectations).
If your student receives a Work Habit evaluation of 2 MM – Minimally Meeting Expectations or 1 NYM – Not Yet Meeting Expectations, their classroom teacher has likely recently contacted you by phone or by email regarding specific issues of concern, and has requested a meeting at our upcoming Parent‐Teacher Interviews (PTIs).
Student Self-Reflection
The Term 1 Progress Report includes a student generated Self‐Reflection comment that speaks to the Core Competency of Communication across all courses. Student Self-Reflection comments were submitted by the students and have not been edited.
Grade 8 and 9 – Proficiency Levels and Letter Grades
For the three formal report cards that follow, December 8, 2022, March 9, 2023, and June 27, 2023, Grade 8 and 9 students will receive Proficiency Levels for each Curricular Competency. Letter Grades will only be posted to the final report card in June. In Grade 8 and 9 courses, individual Proficiency Levels for each Curricular Competency provide more meaningful information about student achievement in the course, and the Letter Grade is provided for BC Ministry of Education documentation purposes.
Grade 10, 11 and 12 – Percentages and Letter Grades
For the three formal report cards that follow, December 8, 2022, March 9, 2023, and June 27, 2023, a Percentage (%) and a Letter Grade will be included for all Grade 10, 11 and 12 students.
Parent-Teacher Interviews (PTIs)
Parent‐Teacher Interviews (PTIs) are scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 2022. Please check your email the week of October 31 to November 4 for information regarding PTIs.
Academic Counsellor Meetings.
November is an opportune time to book a meeting with Mr. Bouwman or Mrs. DeWith to ask post‐secondary admissions questions.
