Today, is the inaugural Black Excellence Day in British Columbia. In recognition, a number of teachers wore black to show their support. In addition, several staff and students also participated in an educational virtual event online where guest speakers touched upon Black history, achievements, and culture.
Guided by our declaration of solidarity for all who are marginalized and as part of the development of Action & Advocacy among our Knights, STMC continues to stand in solidarity against social injustices. Since its inception, STMC has followed the 7 Essential Elements of the Blessed Edmund Rice Brothers, two of which are even more relevant today:
Essential Element #3: Stand in solidarity with those Marginalized by Poverty and Injustice
Essential Element #5: Celebrate the Value and Dignity of Each Person and Nurture the Development of the Whole Person
With these in mind, STMC as a whole, acknowledges the struggle that the Black community faces every day and reaffirms our commitment to make this a more equitable community.
