Missions: Jeans Day
This Friday is Jeans Day! Bring $2 to contribute to the STMC Missions program and wear your favorite pair of jeans.
About the Missions Program
The STMC Missions program is a collection of monies generated by the student body to help those in need. Our donations have supported both local and international causes over the past decades and continue to proudly do so in true Edmund Rice spirit. Recently we have generously given to our Christian Brother community in Dominica in the West Indies, Our Edmund Rice Christian Brothers in Peru, Our Lady of Guadeloupe Edmund Rice middle school in Brownsville Texas, grassroots programs for single indigenous Mothers in Vanderhoof.
Lastly, we also donate funds and food to various local breakfast and lunch programs.
Behold Vancouver
Behold Vancouver is hosting an online parent education class “Making sense of Anxiety in Children and Youth” beginning Sept 17.
The escalating level of anxiety in our children begs for an explanation as well as a solution. Dr. Gordon Neufeld sheds light on this age-old problem, paving the way for natural interventions that can actually get to the root causes as opposed to just managing symptoms. Although the focus is on children, this enlightening material will benefit anyone suffering from anxiety.
As we enter into a new school year, the Archdiocese of Vancouver is pleased to once again be offering Making Sense of Anxiety in Children and Youth, a Dr. Neufeld video course with discussion facilitated by Kevin Bredeman.
Kevin Bredeman is a husband, father, and Canadian Certified Counsellor who obtained his M.A. in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University. He has worked for 17 years in the mental health field and is currently a therapist working with youth and families.

Also, Peer Tutors get their Service Hours for the amount of hours that they have tutored. The program runs throughout the year every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:45 – 3:45 pm at the Learning Commons. You are free to attend any/all of the days depending on your own schedule.
If you are interested in Peer Tutoring or getting some academic support, then show up on our starting day Monday, September 16 from 2:45 – 3:45 pm at the Learning Commons for sign-up and ask any questions. For further information contact Mrs. Eugine.

Truth & Reconciliation
This is the third year of an annual event that supports community member engagement as we all Journey Towards Reconciliation.
The National Truth and Reconciliation 94 Calls to Action, specifically #48 and #60, ask us to learn and understand Indigenous Spirituality. This event is the work of volunteers from the New Westminster Ministerial Association (a group of faith-based organizations in the City of New Westminster).
We have the support of the QayQayt First Nation and The Spirit of the Children Society. A member of the QayQayt First Nation will open the event and Steven Seegerts, from Urban Aboriginal Ministry, will be featured along with two others who will share with us ‘The 7 Sacred Teachings’ through storytelling and music (also called ‘The 7 Sacred Grandmothers/Grandfathers’).
We will be offering Bannock, plus the Bannock Queen Food Truck will be onsite for other Indigenous treats at a cost. There will be an opportunity for people to make their own Prayer Tie or, should they wish, take a kit home to do at a time that works best for them.
The objective of this event is to recognize, highlight and elevate Indigenous knowledge, expertise, perspective and experience. At the same time, it is an opportunity to connect, neighbour to neighbour, as we learn together from our Indigenous siblings.
This is not about the faith groups within the Ministerial Association. It is a joint goal to live out and support justice for all members of our communities. Our hope is to provide an opportunity where neighbours can come to learn more about Indigenous Spiritual Practices in the beautiful and nature-filled spaces in and around the Queen’s Park Bandshell.
Those stopping by will have the opportunity to enjoy some Bannock, spend a relaxing afternoon with friends and family and possibly meet new people, all while learning what it means to journey together, and individually, Towards Reconciliation.
