Meet the Teacher Night

We are excited to invite your family to our upcoming Meet the Teacher Night on Oct 17, 2024. This evening is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our staff, hear from an expert in child development, and engage in sessions with our teaching faculty that will give you insight into your child’s classes, co-curricular opportunities, and other facets of our STMC community.

Event Schedule:

  • 5:00-5:45 pm – Social Reception
Meet faculty and other parents and enjoy refreshments before the program begins.
  • 5:45-6:45 pm – Keynote: Dr. Deborah MacNamara
Dr. MacNamara will deliver a special talk geared towards parents specifically focused on adolescent development. Find out more about Dr. MacNamara on her website: macnamara.ca
  • 6:55-7:15 pm – Session 1
  • 7:20-7:40 pm – Session 2
  • 7:45-8:05 pm – Session 3
Parents will have the option to attend three different sessions to learn more about various topics. These topics will range from meeting classroom teachers and learning more about what’s happening in those classes, learning more about various co-curricular programs, academic and personal counselling etc. (More information about these sessions will be sent closer to the date).

We hope you can join us for this informative and engaging evening specifically for our families.

Stay tuned for further details on session topics!

Terry Fox Run

In honour of Terry Fox and his mission to raise awareness for cancer, STMC will be hosting its own annual Terry Fox Run for students.

Please bring a Toonie in support of the cause. All proceeds will go to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Make sure to wear as much red as you can! There may also be rain in the forecast so please be sure to dress appropriately.

Safer Schools Together

Safer Schools Together is running free online sessions on the topic of Establishing Safe, Caring and Respectful Digital Communities (Social Media Awareness). There are family sessions recommended for Parents/Caregivers/Grandparents and youth aged 10 and up as a way to facilitate the conversation of safe and caring use of technology at home and in the community (60 minute sessions).

To find out more and to register, visit the Erase Family Sessions page.

Truth & Reconciliation

This is the third year of an annual event that supports community member engagement as we all Journey Towards Reconciliation.

The National Truth and Reconciliation 94 Calls to Action, specifically #48 and #60, ask us to learn and understand Indigenous Spirituality. This event is the work of volunteers from the New Westminster Ministerial Association (a group of faith-based organizations in the City of New Westminster).

We have the support of the QayQayt First Nation and The Spirit of the Children Society. A member of the QayQayt First Nation will open the event and Steven Seegerts, from Urban Aboriginal Ministry, will be featured along with two others who will share with us ‘The 7 Sacred Teachings’ through storytelling and music (also called ‘The 7 Sacred Grandmothers/Grandfathers’).

We will be offering Bannock, plus the Bannock Queen Food Truck will be onsite for other Indigenous treats at a cost. There will be an opportunity for people to make their own Prayer Tie or, should they wish, take a kit home to do at a time that works best for them.

The objective of this event is to recognize, highlight and elevate Indigenous knowledge, expertise, perspective and experience. At the same time, it is an opportunity to connect, neighbour to neighbour, as we learn together from our Indigenous siblings.

This is not about the faith groups within the Ministerial Association. It is a joint goal to live out and support justice for all members of our communities. Our hope is to provide an opportunity where neighbours can come to learn more about Indigenous Spiritual Practices in the beautiful and nature-filled spaces in and around the Queen’s Park Bandshell.

Those stopping by will have the opportunity to enjoy some Bannock, spend a relaxing afternoon with friends and family and possibly meet new people, all while learning what it means to journey together, and individually, Towards Reconciliation.

After School Academic Support

Want to excel in academics? Need extra help with school assignments? Doing well in your courses and wanting to help others succeed? If you are thinking “Yes” to any of these, then the After School Academic Support is the right place for you.

The After School Academic Support offers a wide range of support to students who need help in completing their homework assignments and preparing for any upcoming assessments. Our academically excelling Tutors help their peers that need some extra support to be confident and do well in their academics. Also, Peer Tutors get their Service Hours for the amount of hours that they have tutored. The program runs throughout the year every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:45 – 3:45 pm at the Learning Commons. You are free to attend any/all of the days depending on your own schedule.

If you are interested in Peer Tutoring or getting some academic support, then show up on our starting day Monday, September 16 from 2:45 – 3:45 pm at the Learning Commons for sign-up and ask any questions. For further information contact Mrs. Eugine.
