Who We Are:

Our Jump Start teachers are experienced educators from STMC. Our teachers can not wait to welcome all the incoming STMC Knights to our Faith and Learning Community.

Our Jump Start 2021 instructors are:

Hank Bouwman –
I am a Senior Academic Counsellor and Religion teacher at STMC.  I am proud to say that I have been part of the Jump Start Program for more than 30 years.  I look forward to meeting the Grad class of 2026.

Dave Dawson –
I have been a Science, Math, and Life Sciences teacher since 1996. In September, I will be teaching Science 10, and Life Sciences 11. I am looking forward to helping our new Grade 8 Knights feel comfortable at STMC.

Erica Cameron –
I have taught in the Math Department at STMC for the last 2 years. I have taught Math and Science at the junior and senior levels in Montreal, Gatineau, and in Vancouver. I am excited to meet all the new Knights.

Joe Adams –
I have taught English and Fine Arts at STMC for 12 years, and I have been the Junior School Vice-Principal for the past 3 years. I can’t wait to teach our incoming Grade 8 Knights all about Servant-Leadership and about what it means to me a Knight.

What We Do:

STMC Jump Start program is a 2 week long summer day camp for incoming STMC Grade 8 students. Jump Start is only open to students who are registered at STMC for Grade 8, Fall 2021.

The goals of the program are:

  • Primarily serves as an introduction to life as a STMC Knight.
  • Introduces students to the Grade 8 curriculum which includes, but is not limited to, English, Mathematics, Science, Design Thinking, Social Emotional Learning, and Physical and Health Education.
  • A way to get familiar with the physical campus.
  • Helps students build relationships with teachers and student counsellors.
  • Introduces students to academic expectations in Grade 8 and to the increased level of autonomy they will experience in high school.
  • Provides students with opportunities to meet new classmates from different elementary schools.
  • Familiarizes students with the concept of Servant-Leadership and introduces students to the Knights’ Cross.
  • Helps students make a smooth transition from elementary school to STMC.
