Priority Areas of Support

The Development efforts of St. Thomas More Collegiate are guided by the five Areas of the Knight’s Cross.

Our Principal, Stephen Garland, and staff have developed a thorough list of funding priorities for our school. Donors can contribute to an Unrestricted Fund for the school’s current and emerging needs or direct contributions to a priority guided by the arms of the Knight’s Cross. Your monthly recurring or one-time contribution to one of these important areas will help our young Knights become well-rounded individuals with a balanced-life.

Please consider making a monthly contribution to one of the following areas:

Emerging Needs (Unrestricted)

A contribution to the Emerging Needs fund provides the greatest flexibility for the STMC leadership team to foster an educational environment that is bold, daring, and imaginative. Often this fund will work in conjunction with the Knight’s Cross Areas of Focus. Current priorities include:

  • Learning Assistance Department Enhancements and Renovations
  • Coast Salish Welcome Figure
  • Audio System for Multi-Purpose Room & Fitness Centre
  • Cafeteria Upgrades – Millwork for counter height microwave stand in the cafeteria to accommodate 4-6 microwave ovens. Electrical and Plumbing needed.
  • Pot Lighting for Foyer Cabinets

Knight’s Cross Five Areas of Focus

We believe that by fostering excellence in each of these five areas, both in our organization and in our students, we will develop a system that inspires meaningful lives and helps all Knights to truly make a difference in the world.

Faith

At the centre of the Knight’s Cross, STMC is a Faith-based community and has consistently upheld the importance of education in the Catholic intellectual tradition. A contribution to this Area of Focus will support:

  • Enhancement of the Liturgical Essence of the School
  • All Hallows Bursary Support to cover the tuition of a student attending All Hallows High School, a Christian Brothers’ School located in Bronx, NY
  • STMC’s Bursary and Scholarship Programs
  • Transportation for grade level retreats

Academics

A contribution to the Academics Area of Focus will support program development and help STMC strive for continuous improvement in how we educate our young Knights. Current Academics priorities include:

  • Learning Assistance Department Enhancements and Renovations
  • Applied Design & Technology – Applied Engineering (New) – Equipment and Facility modifications and upgrades / purchases (e.g.) Tabletop CNC Machine, Drill Press, Band Saw, Extraction Fan & Hood Vent, Soldering Irons, Soldering Stations, etc.
  • Exercise & Health Sciences Program (New) – Marrying the sciences and PHE departments to create a true Human Kinetics / Health Sciences stream at the Senior Level
  • Development of Model Classrooms – With a new curriculum and a new way of teaching and learning in British Columbia schools, the development of model classrooms would allow for flexibility in the use of existing classroom spaces throughout the school. Different solutions – particularly the incorporation of more flexible classroom furniture – would be applied to different types of classrooms at STMC.
