Parent Education Series
Behold Vancouver is hosting parenting course – Making Sense of Counterwill: Parenting in the face of resistance.
An online Dr. Gordon Neufeld video course with discussion facilitated by Kevin Bredeman, M.A.
The instinct to resist being controlled or coerced is one of the most perplexing and troublesome dynamics in dealing with children and youth. This course reveals the dynamics behind this instinct and provides suggestions for how to deal with it. This material is applicable for all those dealing with toddlers through adolescents: teachers, parents and helping professionals.
The online course runs October 7 – November 4. Please click on the link to find out more and to register: https://beholdvancouver.org/events/making-sense-of-counterwill#overview
Terry Fox – Friday Sept 26, 2025
Organized by StAC this year, we want to re-emphasise the meaning of the Terry Fox run and how cancer as a whole affects our community. We felt as though the message of the run has been lost over the years and viewed the same as “Walk-a-thon” or just another red day.
This year we are changing this, instead of red day attire, students and staff are encouraged to wear certain colours to support the cancer that has affected them in some way. When the run is in action, students will be able to look around and find people who are sharing/going through similar experiences.
Here are the colours:
Pink is for breast cancer
black is for skin cancer
white for lung cancer
orange for leukemia
blue for colon cancer
As a school, our goal is $10 per person which is roughly $7,000. In addition, for every $1000 raised, the cross country team will be doing one lap of the Terry Fox run route (1.4k x 7= 9.8k if we meet the goal!).
StAC looks forward to seeing us remember the importance of Terry’s message and do our part as a community to continue on the legacy and spread cancer awareness.

3 Pillar Advisory Committee
Attention STMC Parents – do you have experience and passion in advocacy and action? Do you have expertise in environmental sustainability, truth and reconciliation-related work, or justice and equity issues?
The STMC 3 Pillar Advisory Committee (3PAC) is looking for a few more parents to join our multi-stakeholder group consisting of staff, students, parents and alumni. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Mr. Ben Johnston ().
Gr.8 Retreats
The Grade 8 students of St. Thomas More Collegiate are preparing for their very first high school retreat. With the theme “Belonging & the Charism of Blessed Edmund Rice,” the retreat will focus on creating connections and growing in our faith.
Students will gather on two separate days: the More Family of Houses (Oxford, Canterbury, London) will attend on Tuesday, September 23, while the Rice Family of Houses (Dublin, Waterford, Limerick) will attend on Thursday, September 25. Both retreats will take place at Burnaby Hall from 8:25 AM – 2:30 PM.
To begin the day, Grade 8s will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room for attendance before walking together to Burnaby Hall. On Tuesday, students will also have their school photos taken prior to departure.
Throughout the retreat, students will take part in small and large group activities, guided by Grade 11 Retreat Leaders, who will help facilitate meaningful experiences of fellowship and growth. The day will conclude with a Class Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, ensuring that students return to STMC before the end of the school day.
Students are asked to bring their own lunch and snacks, dress in regular school attire, and come prepared to participate fully—without ordering or heating up food.
The Grade 8 retreat promises to be more than just a day away from class. It is a chance for students to discover their place within the STMC community, to reflect on their faith, and to learn from the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice, whose spirit continues to inspire our school today.
