Arts Overview

Building Critical Thinking and Leadership through the Applied and Fine Arts

A well rounded educational experience is one that encourages students to not only think critically but express themselves creatively. STMC offers a wide range of Applied and Fine Arts courses to help students hone their craft in a diverse and carefully curated educational programs designed to promote lifelong critical thinking and appreciation of the Applied and Fine Arts.

Applied Arts

Design

Guided by the Design Cycle, students work through challenges in collaborative ways to design and build various projects. Students design, build, learn and work with simple electronics, work with VEX Robotics, and take on redesign projects in our robust design program.

  • 3D printing, CNC manufacturing, and CAD design

Media Arts

Our Media Arts program equips students with the skills to create captivating digital content while exploring the powerful role design plays in communication and storytelling. Using professional-grade tools, students will master the art of digital photography, videography, and graphic design. Through real-world projects and collaborations, they’ll develop a creative portfolio and gain experience in content creation for STMC and beyond.

  • Real-World Content Creation: Contribute to STMC’s social media presence by producing engaging, high-quality content.
  • Master Industry-Standard Tools: Gain hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside other departments to capture and broadcast school events, games, and performances, showcasing your skills in a professional setting.

Fine Arts

Drama

Students will engage in a range of playful methods of creating, devising and performing for a range of audiences. Skills will be built with students in workshops ranging from forms of theatre to improvisation and scenic design. Students will explore the wider impact that the viewed and created Drama work can have on spectators, both emotional and imaginative.

  • Attending and reviewing local plays and productions

Music

Our award winning and thriving music program offers over 10 performing ensembles in both vocal and instrumental idioms encourages student to not only build the skills to be outstanding musicians but also develop crucial teamwork and leadership skills that are readily transferable to all areas of study. Our music program is designed to help students not only blossom but act as a balance to a well rounded educational experience.

Program Highlights:

  • Performing ensembles ranked in the top 10% of all Canadian music ensembles
  • Regular performances on campus and in professional theatre facilities
  • Annual trips locally and abroad

Visual Arts

In visual arts, students explore a variety of materials, techniques, ideas and learn to problem solve and express themselves visually through a variety of mediums.  It doesn’t matter what your abilities are in art, it’s about trying out a technique, expressing yourself, being patient with the process, and your development.
