Today, let us hold the people of Tumbler Ridge in our thoughts and our hearts in the wake of the tragic acts of violence that have shattered that community.

We are thinking of those who have been lost, those who have lived through unspeakable terror, and those who have moved to wrap themselves around those affected.

We offer our deepest condolences and support to the students and families, and to everyone in the Tumbler Ridge community.

Let us pray together:

Loving Father, you sent your Son into the world to redeem us by his Cross and Resurrection. In our shock and confusion, we come before you. In our despair amid hate, in our sense of helplessness in the face of violence, we lean on you. We ask for peace in our minds, bodies, and souls, and for the courage and strength to help heal the moments of stress and grief in our lives. Send your Holy Spirit to bring light to the darkness, comfort to the weary, and peace to the violence.

Almighty God, your power brings us to birth, and your providence guides our lives. Entrust the beloved children of Tumbler Ridge Secondary School to your everlasting love and heavenly kingdom. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Amen.

Saint Thomas More, pray for us.
Blessed Edmund Rice, pray for us.
Live, Jesus, in our hearts, forever.

We encourage families to consider the following:

  • Monitor exposure to news and social media: Repeated viewing of upsetting images or commentary can heighten anxiety. Please consider discouraging the sharing or reposting of graphic or speculative content.
  • Ask your child what they have heard and how they are feeling. Open-ended questions can help clarify misconceptions and provide reassurance.
  • Provide age-appropriate facts: Be honest, but gentle. It is okay to acknowledge when you do not have all the answers.
  • Maintain routine: Predictability and normal daily structure help children feel secure during uncertain times.
