The goal of the Santa Margarita Project is to help finish, furnish, and fill the middle floor of Santa Margarita School in Montevideo, Uruguay, by March 1, 2027.

Santa Margarita is an elementary school serving approximately 200 children in La Cruz de Carrasco, a community facing intense poverty, violence, addiction, educational inequality, and limited opportunities for children and families.

In vulnerable communities, schools often become far more than educational institutions; they provide safety, support, belonging, and pathways toward greater opportunity.

Founded and supported by Stella Maris College and its alumni, the Old Christians Club, Santa Margarita provides:

  • Bilingual education in Spanish and English
  • Daily meals for students
  • Physical education, art, and music
  • Socio-emotional education
  • Psychological and social support
  • Resources for families and community members

All at no cost to families.

In 2025, a new three-story structure was built at Santa Margarita, and the bottom floor officially opened in February 2026. Completing the middle floor will allow the school to expand its impact and create opportunities for even more children and families.

This initiative is being developed through a collaborative partnership between the STMC Alumni Association and Rotary.
