Bro. Bassett Memorial Bursary

For more than six decades, Brother Bassett devoted his life to the STMC community. Brother Bassett was the heart of our community. He was a quiet, humble leader, with generations of students, families, staff, and alumni who had been shaped by his unwavering faith, quiet wisdom, and joyful spirit. He truly embodied the values of Jesus and Edmund Rice, devoting his life to every student who walked through the doors at STMC.

A little-known fact: Brother Bassett used to take the small stipend he received from the Christian Brothers and use it to provide financial assistance for a student to attend STMC. He did this quietly, and very few knew about it. As tuition grew, his small stipend could no longer cover the full cost, but he always found other ways to contribute, ensuring that a Knight’s education would never be out of reach for anyone.

It is in his honour that we launch the Brother Bassett Memorial Bursary. We are reaching out to our community with a goal to fully fund two students through the 2026/27 school year at STMC, completely covering all of their activities and fees.

Our Goal: To raise $20,000 by September 1st 2026*

*If we surpass this goal, all additional funds will go toward fully or partially funding another student.
**All contributions are tax receiptable.

Brother Bassett will be deeply missed for his kindness, advice, care, and for being a true pillar of our community through the ages. If you have any kind words or stories to share, please click the link below, we would love to add them here for everyone to read.
