Indigenous Brilliance and Resilience Week

This week we will be celebrating “Indigenous Brilliance and Resilience”. We are honouring Indigenous wisdom and culture as well as some incredible members of the Indigenous community. We also want to recognize that many challenges and issues facing Indigenous communities are not merely historical but continue into the present. Here are a few highlights happening this week:

Monday – May 5th

  • on a table in the front foyer will be a little tree and we invite everyone to tie a red ribbon onto it and say a prayer for those who are missing and murdered
  • take a look at the Brilliant and Resilient Indigenous matriarchs poster series – this will be in the same spot as the Lenten Journey posters in the hall across from the Bros residence entry
  • we will have a short mass at lunch in the gym with Fr. Nick to pray for all impacted by the Lapu Lapu Festival tragedy as well as to pray for MMIWG2S, Blessed Edmund Rice Feast Day and the papal conclave
  • all are encouraged to wear red as parts of their uniform – red polo, red sweatshirt, etc…, but will it not be an official red day

Tuesday – May 6th

  • a school-wide presentation by Kayah George, along with the screening of her film “Our Grandmother The Inlet” with Q&A

Supporting STMC Grad 2025

Graduation is one of the most special milestones in a student’s life — and it takes a supportive community to make these celebrations truly unforgettable!
We are reaching out to all STMC parents across all grades to invite you to get involved, get a sneak peek at our exciting grad events, and pay it forward by helping this year’s graduates and their families fully enjoy this important moment.

We particularly need volunteers for two key events:

  1. Grad Mass & Reception
  2. Dry Grad

Even signing up for a shift or two will make a huge difference. Please consider lending a hand by signing up here: volunteersignup.org/KP7HH

As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Together, we can make this a truly memorable and meaningful celebration for our graduating students.

Thank you for your support — we can’t do it without you!
Warm regards,

Anne Fok & Marita Deza

Mikey’s Run

In honour of STMC Class of ’07 Grad Mike Lowe who we sadly lost last June, we encourage you to take part in Mikey’s Run. This event happens on June 29th, 2025 at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Fields.

Mike was a devoted father, son, brother, husband, friend, and a proud STMC Alum. This run is more than a tribute to Mike’s love of running – it’s a call to action. Let’s honour his legacy by creating space for openness, connection, and support. Volunteers and/or runners are encouraged to sign up through the website, Mikey’s Run.
