“Peace be with all of you!”
A new chapter in the Catholic Church begins as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost is elected the 267th pope, taking the name Pope Leo XIV and delivering his first address from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. STMC joins the global Catholic community in celebrating our newly elected Holy Father!
Let us unite in prayer for our new Pope Leo XIV from the Edmund Rice North American Consortium of Schools:
A Prayer for Pope
Loving and provident God,
You guide Your Church through the ages with shepherds after Your own heart.
Today, with joy and reverence, we welcome Pope Leo XIV as the new successor of Peter.
Grant him the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of Peter,
and the tender strength of Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family.
May his pontificate be a beacon of truth in an age of confusion,
a voice of peace amid the noise of conflict,
and a heart of mercy to a wounded world.
Strengthen him as he proclaims the Gospel with clarity and compassion.
Give him companions in holiness,
and protect him with the mantle of Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom.
As followers of Blessed Edmund Rice,
may we respond to the call of this new Holy Father
with fidelity to our mission—
to serve Christ in the poor, to educate for justice,
and to form young hearts for faith and freedom.
Together, may we walk in the light of the Resurrection,
united with the Universal Church under the leadership of Pope Leo XIV.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Blessed Edmund Rice, pray for us.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
Live, Jesus, in our hearts… Forever!
Pope Leo XIV, may the Holy Spirit Guide You and our Church.
Thank you to Dr. Cris Ritchie-Bonomo from the Office of Educational Services, Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America for sharing this beautiful prayer.
