STMC will be returning to regular dress code beginning Monday October 19th. We would like to take a moment to remind students and families of several parts of our dress code policy:
Outerwear
Students are expected to follow the dress code regardless of the weather. Non-STMC outerwear and hoodies, including STMC athletic hoodies, are not permitted at school. Students wearing them will be asked to put them in their lockers. Items not put away will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school day.
Dress Pants
As the weather changes, students have started wearing more comfortable pants. Please note that black sweatpants (including STMC athletic wear), leggings, cargo pants, and jeans are not part of our dress code. Students are to wear black or beige dress pants, which reflect the professionalism of our school. Students in non-compliant pants will be asked to change and referred to administration. Repeated occurrences may lead to further disciplinary action. Shorts are no longer permitted after Friday, October 16th.
Kilts
We recognize that kilt length is a delicate issue and want to respect everyone involved. We have seen significant variation in how students wear their kilts and have had many conversations with staff, parents, and students. These raised useful points, such as sizing, hemming, and tailoring. As a reminder, kilts must not be worn shorter than three inches above the knee, and students are not required to wear kilts. A female staff member will speak discreetly with any student whose kilt appears improperly worn about its fit and appearance.
Footwear
Students may choose their footwear as long as it is appropriate and safe. Uggs, Crocs, Birks, sandals, slippers, slides, and high heels are not permitted for safety reasons. Boots are also not part of our dress code. Students in non-permitted footwear will be asked to change or be sent home to change.
We want our dress code, and the way students present themselves, to reflect our school’s values and build pride and professionalism in our community. We ask for your support in checking with your children that their dress code items fit well and work for daily wear. Our goal is a professional, respectful learning environment with a uniform policy that is practical and reasonable.
Thank you for your cooperation,
The STMC Administration
