In Loving Memory of Douglas Corbett

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Douglas Corbett, a beloved member of the St. Thomas More Collegiate family, alumnus of Notre Dame High School, devoted Physical and Health Education teacher at STMC and Terry Fox High School, legendary soccer and wrestling coach, respected President of BC Wrestling, loving husband to Jennifer, and proud father to Ciara, Caileen, and Kiela.

Doug was far more than an exceptional educator and coach—he was the embodiment of a servant-leader. He lived the Christian Brother tradition that has shaped St. Thomas More Collegiate since its founding: placing the needs of others before his own and dedicating his life to helping others become the very best versions of themselves.

Whether he was teaching in the classroom, coaching on the wrestling mat, mentoring a young soccer athlete, or encouraging a colleague, Doug made every individual feel seen, valued, and capable of achieving more than they ever thought possible. His unwavering belief in people transformed countless lives.

As a teacher, Doug pursued excellence with humility and compassion. He inspired students not only through his knowledge and expertise but through his example. He challenged them to work hard, persevere through adversity, and lead lives marked by integrity, discipline, and service. His classroom was a place where students learned lessons that extended far beyond physical education—they learned about character, resilience, and what it means to care for others.

As President of BC Wrestling and a lifelong leader within the wrestling community, Doug dedicated countless hours to growing the sport, mentoring coaches, and supporting athletes throughout British Columbia and across Canada. His leadership was never about recognition; it was always about serving others and leaving every program stronger than he found it.

Doug’s life beautifully reflected the Seven Essential Elements of a Christian Brother Education. He celebrated the value and dignity of each person. He nurtured the development of the whole person. He inspired others to lead through his own example of humility, generosity, and unwavering faithfulness. Like Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers who founded our school, Doug understood that authentic leadership begins with service.

Above all, Doug’s greatest joy was his family. Our hearts are especially with his beloved wife, Jennifer, and his cherished daughters, Ciara, Caileen, and Kiela, whom he loved beyond measure. The love he shared with his family was evident to everyone who knew him, and we pray that they may find comfort in the tremendous outpouring of love and support from the many communities Doug touched throughout his remarkable life.

Doug leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply by championships won or positions held, but by the thousands of lives he influenced through his kindness, mentorship, compassion, and steadfast commitment to serving others. His impact will continue to be felt in every student he encouraged, every athlete he coached, every colleague he supported, and every friend whose life was enriched by knowing him.

As a faith community, we entrust Doug to the loving embrace of our Lord Jesus Christ, confident in the promise of the Resurrection. We give thanks for a life so generously lived and pray that eternal light may shine upon him.

In a fitting tribute to Doug’s unmistakable style and spirit, attendees are warmly encouraged to wear their Adidas Samba shoes in his honour. It is a simple but meaningful way to celebrate the man whose humble leadership, generous heart, joie de vivre, and enduring legacy will forever remain part of St. Thomas More Collegiate, Notre Dame High School, Terry Fox High School, and BC Wrestling communities.
