Lenten Journey Week Two: Celebrating Children and Youth
As part of our Lenten Journey, Week Two will focus on celebrating Children and Youth. On Monday, February 24th, representatives from Covenant House, an organization supporting vulnerable youth in Vancouver, will be presenting to our classes. We hope their message will inspire us to take action and find meaningful ways to support their mission.
To contribute, we will dedicate our mission collections to Covenant House. Additionally, we have been asked to collect clothing and shoes for youth aged 16-24. Your generosity will make a difference in the lives of those in need.
To learn more about Covenant House please visit their website at https://www.covenanthousebc.org/
Honouring Pink Day – Wed, Feb 26
Next Wednesday, February 26, we will recognize Pink Shirt Day as part of our Lenten Journey, which focuses on children and youth. Students are encouraged to wear a pink shirt to show their support for anti-bullying.
Please note that all students must be in full dress code. Students who choose to participate may wear their pink shirt over their dress code.
We also ask participating students to donate a Toonie to Missions, with all proceeds supporting Covenant House and its work with vulnerable youth.
Science
Since September, our students have been collaborating with a scientist in Macau SAR, China, to study how artificial light at night affects nocturnal insects—an exciting project supported by National Geographic’s Explorer-Educator Exchange program. After months of planning in the fall, they’ve been actively collecting data since January, meticulously measuring the mass of hornworm caterpillars in our classroom before and after school.
On Monday, March 3rd, STMC’s Science Department is excited to welcome scientists from UBC to discuss the students’ research. This will be a unique opportunity for our students to engage with experts—like a field trip, but right here in our own classroom!
Learning Commons
As part of the second week of the Lenten Journey, the Learning Commons will host a workshop on Thursday, Feb. 27 at lunch to sew warm fleece headbands to support youth at Covenant House. Look for the sign-up poster in the Learning Commons to participate or sign up on this Google Form. Participants will receive an email reminder prior to Thursday, Feb. 27.
Staff and parents are welcome to sign up as well and will be offered a “spot” depending on availability.

- How to help and support your child and yourself to grow in faith.
We will also discuss:

- What gifts you have and how to use those gifts to make your family into intentional disciples for Christ.
After School Academic Support
Want to excel in academics? Need extra help with school assignments? Doing well in your courses and wanting to help others succeed? If you are thinking “Yes” to any of these, then the After School Academic Support is the right place for you.

The program runs throughout the year every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:45 – 3:45 pm at the Learning Commons. You are free to attend any/all of the days depending on your own schedule.
