We at St. Thomas More Collegiate stand in solidarity with the victims, families, and entire community affected by the tragic events yesterday at the Lapu Lapu Day in Vancouver. The Filipino community is a cherished and active part of the STMC family and Catholic community here in the Lower Mainland, and we share in their sorrow during this time of immense grief. This heartbreaking loss has touched us all, and we extend our deepest prayers and condolences to everyone impacted. We join with countless others in mourning and in hope for healing.
In the words of Bro. Tom Leto at Iona Prep, our fellow Blessed Edmund Rice Christian Brothers school: “We join together asking Blessed Edmund to intercede for all those harmed by actions not of their own making. Prayers to Our Mother of Perpetual Help to aid you through your grief and sorrow. May our God shower comfort on those hurt; may Jesus our Brother walk alongside the injured; and may the Holy Spirit spread peace throughout the larger Vancouver community.”
While we are faced with overwhelming sorrow, we can find hope in each other and in our faith. Together, let us be a beacon of light in this dark time. May we support one another and build a path to healing.
